I love words.
Sometimes it's the sound.
Anthophobia.
Sometimes it's all that it suggests when its meaning is explored.
An abnormal and persistent fear of flowers.
And best, is when it's both.
Anthophobia : An abnormal and persistent fear of flowers.
Fear of flowers?? Who is afraid of a flower ?
I hate pharmaceutical commercials.
They make me nervous and then sell me something to ease my nerves.
I like the idea of a medicinal herb corsage, and,
jewelry that cures.
These pieces address the phenomena of the medicalization of society by relating an object significant of social conventions - the corsage (adornment/jewelry) to a medicinal utility. The silhouette of each brooch is derived from a traditional flower corsage. The botanical elements within the form are from medicinal herbs, such as St John's Wort, Valerian, and Skullcap, which might be used in the treatment of social anxiety. Made of steel and colored with nail polish , they are very light despite their volume, and their construction exhibits an irreverent technical agility. 'Anthophobia: Fear of Flowers', as a title for these pieces indicates a questioning view of the need for medicinal treatments for diverse human behavior, or, of the social system which creates so much anxiety.
