"The work in Blind Spot is lush and austere, ornamental and minimal, restrained and exuberant, historically resonant and absolutely current, engaging and exclusory, accessible and intellectually challenging, self-conscious and inevitable. These tensions are in no way accidental. They function as complements that trigger consideration and reflection, even as the objects themselves enchant and gratify. They are in fact, structural artifacts of a restless intellectual inquiry that embraces scholarly research as both methodology and subject, synthesizing new ideas out of traditional forms of adornment."
Kate Wagle, from excerpt of essay, Anya Kivarkis: Blind Spot, 2007

"The work in Blind Spot examines vision, and manipulates how we are directed to see luxury goods in contemporary visual culture. Through strategies of obstruction, camouflage, simulation, and illusion, the work challenges excess as it hovers in a state that is simultaneously present and absent, excessive and blank, artificial and real. It seeks to subvert how jewelry operates as a signifier of access to luxury, as excessive embellishment has historically signaled wealth and civility. The work is a disruption of how we are conventionally delivered images of luxury, and moves from the immediate frontal nature of image culture to an object-based, experiential discovery."
