Mound draws from my research into three disparate practices: the pleasure and refinement of ladies accomplishments of the 18 th century; the high-minded machismo of American Earth Art in the 20 th century; and the socially complex evolution of French and English Garden Design of the 16 th -18 th centuries. Practitioners in each of these fields developed highly stylized forms to express their ideologies and social aspirations, often going to extraordinary lengths to create something natural . Mound brings together elements from each of these disciplines to expose their frivolities, contradictions and purposefully constructed features. Through combination I hope to bring attention to the variety of sources - spanning centuries, continents, and gender roles - that collectively merge to shape the peculiarities of a personal vantage point.
