The time has come again for the Sienna Gallery Emerging Artist Award (work by last years recipient ANYA Kivarkis shown above). This time we are dividing it into two sections. EAone is for artists who want to submit one of a kind work and EAtwo is for those who make multiples. We will have a blog that answers your questions as well as a online application option. The application will be available June 15 or AT OUR BOOTH during SOFA New York the last weekend in May. The deadline will be August 15. Check back, more info and the application will soon be available here.

So-if you live in New York or visit, you probbaly already went to see these two shows in NYC. The first is, of course... the Whitney BIenniAl and the second is "anything at the new musuem" otherwise known as "have you seen the building yet?" We did. It's cool. You can even see one part of the show, Unmonumental, online here.

Just back from the BRIDGE ARTFAIR. A great success and lots of interesting fun. Thank you to everyone who stopped by the booth and the artist who participated! Check out this video at the NEW YORK TIMES to learn more about the show and to see images of our booth. Lauren Kalman's work was featured on lots of publications, blogs and all over NYC.

It is still the dead of Winter, and to keep it lively we are sitting, drinking peppermint tea and perusing our new copies of Thinking Through Craft. It's that or get sucked into American Idol and... well, that wouldn't be something we would would admit to. With lots of big words and deep thoughts, this new book by Glenn Adamson can be purchased at Amazon or even better through the publisher, Berg.

The Journal of Modern Craft will be shipping in the next few weeks- we just ordered it here - but if you are falling down with excitement and just can't wait to get your hands on this scholarly publication you can check out the first issue here. "The first peer-reviewed academic journal to provide an interdisciplinary and international forum in its subject area. It addresses all forms of making that self-consciously set themselves apart from mass production—whether in the making of designed objects, artworks, buildings, or other artifacts."

EDGE OF THE SUBLIME: The Enamels of Jamie Bennett opens January 22 at the FULLER CRAFT MUSEUM and begins its 2 year trek to museums across the country. Come to the public opening on Sunday January 27. This is the first-ever retrospective of works by one of the most important enamellists today. This exhibition explores the Bennett's creative use and development of a variety of techniques used to produce highly color-saturated imagery Curated by Jeannine Falino, former Carolyn and Peter Lynch Curator of Decorative Arts, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Edge of the Sublime will be on view through May 4. We will be posting images from the show, live concert footage, info about the new 150+ page Bennett book, and the superbad comic featuring the man himself... in the next few days.

The Museum of Contemporary Craft in Portland opens FRAMING:THE ART OF JEWELRY on January 19.
This exhibition was curated by internationally known design curator Ellen Lupton and originally published as a print exhibition in Metalsmith Magazine. The exhibition includes the work of Bettina Speckner (above), Johan Van Aswegen, Melanie Bilenker, Kristin Bolhuis, Esther Knobel, Sondra Sherman.
